Pierrefonds: day two; probably still not quite what you're after...

Bonsoir, Merlin fans!

Well, we had a lovely day at the Chateau today, and as you'll have already seen, one of the real highlights was being hipstamatised by DoP hero Dale McCready... ♥

I took rather more photos today! Heaps of Nathaniel Parker, as a favour for someone I met via flickr. Many of Dale, some of Julian, and some of goth!girl Katie.

We had glimpses of Colin, Bradley, Angel and Richard - we even got a wave from dear Richard! - along with Eoin and Rupert. But again most of the filming involving the main cast was taking place inside. A long day was had in the throne room, while we watched evil ninja knights marching around the courtyard.

The biggest shock of the day was...

MAJOR SPOILER!!!

Merlin has a fine new coat. It was so bizarre to see him dressed up a bit... I kind of thought, 'Colin! No, it can't be. But, Colin! What the hell is going on with the coat...?' I used to wish the poor lad would get a costume upgrade, but now it just seems a bit wrong. :-)

So again, I don't have very much chat or news, but here's a sampler of photos. The rest you can find on my flickr account.


Julian seemed to be doing some directing - and when he wasn't, he was doing producer things, like taking important phone calls.


Dale was shining like a ray of Antipodean sunshine... ♥


I liked the conjunction of the evil ninja knights and the pretty potted plant...


The lovely Nathaniel Parker. I am really looking forward to seeing what he brings to the show.


I am told Nat loves horses, and he certainly seemed comfortable riding this one, even though it was rather frisky.


Look, anything I say here will be completely inappropriate. Apples just have that effect on me... :-) Katie was done up very Goth!


The Throne Room was well lit, and Bradley and Angel were in there all day. Alas, I cannot report more!


Amusing myself while we were sitting on the steps, as recorded for posterity by Dale! :-D

And that's about it for the day. I hope I have more to report tomorrow, but unless there's something happening in the courtyard, it may be slim pickings again.

Merlin's new coat is freaking me out. I don't know why but it is. It's beautiful but Merlin hasn't got an upgrade in years so why now? Can you tell me if it's quilted velvet? It looks like it from the pictures but real life is better.

Heh. Yes, I'm now waiting to find out why, too! I hope it's for a good and interesting reason, whether the change was for an episode only, or it's a more ongoing thing...

Yes, it looked like quilted velvet to me, too. I only saw it from a distance, but that was exactly the impression it made on me.

Ah, so much to look forward to this season: good things anticipated, and puzzles to be solved! :-)

How is the coat wrong? He looks absolutely stunning in it...that much beauty cannot be wrong, ever. I just wish he would get to keep it, along with his grown-up style boots! We've been waiting for a costume change for Merlin for so long.

I so totally agree that Colin looked so very beautiful in that coat! Just absolutely gorgeous. But to me, Merlin as a character isn't about being beautiful or gorgeous. And after three seasons of still wearing the old clothes that he brought with him from Ealdor, it seems a bit odd to me to make such a change. So I guess we'll have to agree on the one thing, and I'll reserve my judgement on the other! :-) I am just waiting now, with great interest, to see what the story-related reason is for the coat!

I think part of the reason that Colin/Merlin looks so *right* in those new clothes is that the character is way, way, WAY overdue for new clothes! The timeline for the show is even longer than for RL (six years rather than the four the show has been on), so it's ridiculous to think he'd still be in the very same baggy, homespun peasant clothes. They must be see through and hanging off his bottom by now. So, that is why I like the idea so much of Merlin finally having something new to wear. He's changing along with everythng and everyone else.
I'm predicting the story-related reason for the new duds is either Arthur's coronation or betrothal ceremony.

OK, as you probably already know (or not), I have a thing about coats *___* (asifidletyou can confirm :P) And because I also have a thing about Colin, I'm quite worried about what effect the 2 combined may have on my fragile fangirl heart ;) But I'll be strong <333
I'm sure it must be a bit weird to see him all dressed up but I for one can't wait ! ^^

Hee! Yes, I had got that impression over time, and I have to say I think you are going to be swooning all over the place. Colin looked absolutely gorgeous in that coat! I am just so curious now to learn about the canonical how and why of it all! So very much to look forward to this season... :-)

Ah, the coat... I very much like your idea, but I suppose at this point we can only guess. There is so much to look forward to this season, and solving such puzzles is certainly one of them!
