new Flickr group for Merlin Locations
I have now created a group on Flickr for Merlin Locations. The idea is that you may like to use it as a place to upload and share your own photos of various locations. (Of course you don't have to use it, but it's there as a resource if you'd like to.)
I have uploaded a few images just to get things started - which made me realise I haven't even shared my images from my second trip to Pierrefonds! (How slack am I...? Very!)
I have also included a 'Flickr group' page on the Merlin Locations website which displays thumbnails of some of the most recently uploaded images.
You can find them here:
guidelines
You will need to have a Flickr account in order to add your photos to the pool. The way it works is that you upload the images to an account, and them add the relevant images to the group.
You can join Flickr for free. (There are limits on how much you can upload with a free account, but that may not matter to you.) If you really don’t want to open a Flickr account (or you have more photos than a free account can handle), contact me either via the comments or a PM, and I’ll arrange for you to have access to the merlinlocations (paid) account.
Your images are no doubt beautiful in their own right, but adding descriptions and tags (and so on) makes the images even more interesting and useful.
If anyone would like to help with the Flickr group as a prince (known in the mundane world as a moderator), you’d be very welcome! Also, if you have any ideas about how better to use this resource, please pipe up. I am not overly wise in the ways of Flickr, and will appreciate any help or advice.
the website
I'm certainly glad I finally got to work on the website. When I was first thinking about creating this community, my friend

So that's pretty awesome. And I haven't even done anything much by way of promoting the site yet! (It's on my rather long To Do List.)
what would you like to do most...?
Of course if anyone would like to be more involved in the community, the website, or the Flickr page, feel free to contact me. In the meantime, everyone is very welcome to post and upload and share to their heart's content. ♥

Of course you're very welcome indeed to join, and please just give me a nudge if there's something you'd like to happen that just ain't happening... ♥

Definitely. Are you keeping merlinlocations to locations for the show, or other various locations in myth, or is that getting to be a bit too broad in subject?

Which is a long way of saying, yes, we are interested in making this about Arthurian locations as well. Though if there ever needs to be a priority given, it would probably have to be to the Merlin locations. :-)
Do you have a particular interest in Arthuriana...? (That's a leading question, isn't it?!)

And as for a particular interest in Arthuriana...I've had a long love of Arthurian legend that stretches back to when I was eight or something and my father gave me The Once and Future King. I love the legends, both in figuring out their origin but also the way they've changed over the ages. I think that change, if anything, is one of my favorite parts about the legend because as much as it gives a new take on the legend it also tells you something about the time within it was written. Either way, I think my love of all things Arthurian shall be life long!
From a locations standpoint, I do love that most of the legends featuring Merlin actually come with a location you can pinpoint on a map. My dad got me Merlin and Wales: A Magician's Landscape a while ago which is a fascinating read (with gorgeous figures and photographs), a few of the locations that the boys went to are in it...but they didn't go to my favorites...alas!
If that reply made little to no sense I completely understand!

I really love your point about how the legends change over time to reflect the time that they're being retold in. I agree with you that that's one of the most awesome things about Arthuriana as a whole. It really interests me that our current retellings include such delights as 'Spamalot' and 'Merlin' and indeed all the fan fiction we are creating. There's certainly enough there to love and explore for the rest of our lives, isn't there? I'm looking forward to it! :-)
Ooh, and I'm gonna go find 'Merlin and Wales' on Amazon now... Sounds wonderful! Bless your Dad. ♥
Of course if you ever feel inspired to do a post on this comm - about your favourite locations, for example, and what the boys missed out on - you'd be very welcome. Posting is love... ♥ :-D
P.S. And I love your icon, by the way! It's sweet. :-D

It's such a cool thing. Arthurian legend has been around for centuries and to sort of map the changes in it in reflection to the changes in society and the world is equally as fascinating. There's so much to explore for the rest of our lives! What a fortunate thing for all of us!
Do it! It's worth your while, it has some lovely insight, though everything is limited to Wales, as I think all of the other areas would need their own book. He's a smart guy!
Of course. I haven't actually been to Britain (woe is me) as I'm American (and our complete lack of real myth is depressing...which might be one reason for my love of Arthuriana...) When I'm studying abroad next year I will be sure to visit some of my favorite places that I've marked on my map. The mountains for one!
Thank you! I'm very very fond of it!

I planned more of these picspams (I have soooo many pics) but somehow other stuff seemed so much more important lately. So I'm really looking forward to preparing one or two other picspams (until now I only posted pics I took outside the castle), now that series 2 is finished and the filming for series 3 hasn't started yet. :D
I love
(AND I LOVE YOUR DUDE ICON AND YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU! *bear hug* ♥ )

Looking forward to seeing your images and your picspams. I do know what you mean, though, about other things taking priority. In some ways it's almost a relief that we now have 261 days free until the third season starts... Imagine what we'll be able to acheive before the madness starts again! :-D
Oh, what am I saying... It's always gonna be mad around LJ! XD And that's what we love about it. ♥

Thank you so much for putting this comm together, it's really useful ♥ The whole site thing and making this info easily available to other fans was a brilliant idea :D
