Penshurst Place
merlocmod and I visited Penshurst Place in July to see where they'd filmed the first episode of Merlin. It's a lovely manor house with extensive gardens. The Baron's Hall was instantly recognizable but alas we weren't allowed to take pictures (although I snuck a few in - although you can buy postcards of the hall and the stairway where Merlin stood). The self-guided tour of the house was lovely, too, but the area where they'd filmed the scene with Merlin being thrown into the dungeons was not open to the public.
It was well worth a trip, though, if nothing else than the gardens are gorgeous. All of my pictures are on the merlinlocation flickr account.
I'd give it 2 pointy hats (maybe more if you like gardens).
I was hoping this was the location of the dungeons but alas not.

Its so good to visit the early locations and get them ticked off 'the must visit' list.
