Ah, it looks like you have an answer re the historical significance of the hedgehogs! It's good to know they're there for a reason! :-D
For me, I kind of have a love/hate relationship with them. On one hand I think they're awful, and on the other hand they're kind of gorgeous. Mesmerising. I take photos of them every time I'm there! It's such a marvellous room, and they've only used it once in the show... I hope they'll do so again! ♥
