5 friends, 2 dogs (named Merlin and Arthur *lol*) and I went to Wales from 6th - 13th July to hunt down some Merlin filming locations. Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] merlinlocations and its fabulous location hunters we had an amazing time and found everything on our list (which wasn't complete at all, but it was a start ^^). And now, that I've completed all the entries of our first Merlin location trip at my livejournal, I'd like to post the links here. :)

Every pic of mine comes with a screenshot of the series, so hopefully everything will be clear. But if there're any questions, I'm more than happy to answer everything I can. :D

Day 1: River Ely, Castell Coch, The Blue Pool, Three Bears Caves
Day 2 + 4: St. Donat's Bay, Dunraven Bay, Margam Country Park, Glastonbury Tor
Day 3: Clearwell Caves, Puzzlewood, Raglan Castle
Day 5 (part 1): Caerphilly Castle
Day 5 (part 2): Comeston Medieval Village, Candleston Castle
Day 6: Goodrich Castle, The Amazing Hedge Puzzle, Speech House Lake
Day 7: Chepstow Castle, Huntsham Court Farm

I think we really did a lot for just one week, but we certainly missed out a lot as well. So, the next trip to Wales is already in the early planning stages. :D
I hope you'll enjoy those entries. :)

Got it!!! but with lots of CGI all round it.

To me the CGI looks like they've used a bit of St Donats cliffs and also Trefil quarry and loads of greenery but lets not worry too much about that.

spoiler because members of the cast are identified in photographs )

Fforest Fawr is a lovely woodland just north of Cardiff, near Junction 32 of the M4, stretching to the east of the village Tongwynlais. We are already familiar with parts of it, as Merlin has used Castell Coch and a couple of wooded areas just off the Castell car park.

Merlin has also filmed at Three Bears Caves, which is easily accessible from the Fforest Fawr Car Park further up the Heol-y-Fforest Road. Just before you get to the Caves, there is an archway leading off to the right, marking the entrance to the Lost or Found Trail - a walking track featuring various sculptures and a lookout across the Taff River Valley.

A while ago I received a comment on the web site from miss_corerupted, who suggested I check out the log circle on the Lost or Found Trail, as filming took place there. So Mr L and I headed off to have a wander one muddy day in September. We took various photos of the general area, cos it's so delightful… so when Ros recently commented that the 'generic forest scenes' in episodes 407 and 408 were filmed in the Fforest Fawr, and specifically just within the Trail entrance, I was able to put two and two together to make five. Hurrah!

So… myself and [livejournal.com profile] asifidletyou recently took a long weekend to go on a Locations Tour, at least partially in honour of Bradley’s birthday. For two of the three days we had the most beautiful autumn weather, just perfect, and I got to visit a couple of new places as well as revisit some of my old favourites. There is new info or images below on Wenallt Woods, Pendragon Close and other streets in Cardiff, and Llanwonno Forest.

I’ve included small copies of lots of photos below, along with commentary. If you’d like to see larger versions of the photos, check out my merlinlocations Flickr photostream.

This is a quick post to thank the wonderful [livejournal.com profile] pakafe - locations detective extraordinaire - for tracking down some places that had really been starting to bug me. :-)

If you haven't checked it out yet, this (image intense!) post of hers describes her recent adventures. I was lucky enough to meet her last Friday morning at Castell Coch, and she showed me Three Bears Caves and The Stream (aka the River Ely at Miskin). Hurrah! I had been hanging out to find both of those places. And [livejournal.com profile] pakafe  also confirmed which scene the boys had filmed just off the car park at Castell Coch. It's been really great to get all this extra information.

I have now posted about the caves and the stream on the Merlin Locations website, updated the page on Castell Coch, and posted images to my Flickr account.

Thank you, [livejournal.com profile] pakafe! It's great to have you on board!

P.S. Someone has commented via the merloc website that filming has been happening at Castell Coch itself! It seems as if they're using some of the exterior bits of the castle. This will prove interesting!

Just a quickie as I'm in South Wales location visiting at the moment, of to Dunraven beach this morning in the rain.

On my last visit to South Wales I found both the Stream aka River Ely and The Three Bears cave. I haven't transferred the details to this page yet as I'm new to all of this but you can view my journal for the details and photos. Enjoy.

Sorry about no tags don't know how to do them , I'll learn.

I'm making a bit of an assumption here… I know they filmed part of season two in Clearwell Caves in the Forest of Dean - and the first ep of the season, The Curse of Cornelius Sigan, uses caves that look somewhat like the photos I've seen of Clearwell Caves - so I'm going to risk putting two and two together and perhaps only making three. I'm going to assume this is the right location, until I can get there in person and investigate futher.

ETA: I can now confirm that Clearwell Caves were indeed used in episodes 201 and 204.
