We celebrated Merlin and the Merlin Family with another Merlin Meet Up in Pierrefonds over the weekend of 15-16 August. Merlin Locations’ intrepid reporter Shell tells us all about it on the Merlin Locations website, supplemented with photos by her husband Robin.

While some of us were in London for the last performance of The Tempest this weekend, others were taking part in the Merlin Meet Up in Pierrefonds, organised by the awesome Sarah Poyser! ♥

One of the participants, Shell - who tried to do both, bless her, along with her family! - has written a report for Merlin Locations. You can find it on the website here.

Here's hoping Sarah will prove indefatigable enough to oblige us with something similar again next year!

Another brief report on today's filming in Pierrefonds! Alas, the last day of the block, and therefore the last of the fifth season for France - but of course, whether it's the last of the show, we've yet to discover.

This includes spoilers of the costume variety, and also some sketchy scene details.

Another pleasant day was had in Pierrefonds, though it was cold, but we were warmed with some really wonderful happenings...

Another brief report on today's filming in Pierrefonds!

This includes spoilers of the casting / character and costume variety, and also some sketchy scene details.

We had a much pleasanter day in terms of the weather, so that made it easier for everyone - fans, cast and crew!

And ... the photos are now uploaded to Flickr!

We have a Locations Geek on the ground in Compiegne!

Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] archaeologist_d for her report posted here on LJ.

It now seems that actual filming will only happen for the period Tuesday 11 to Thursday 13 September.

A very short block indeed!

Twitter friend Oviban Kenobi has found something pretty darned awesome on the interwebs...

The architect Andrea Polato of APtecture modelled the Chateau de Pierrefonds in incredible detail as part of his 3rd year thesis. You can see it grow from the ruin it was 200 years ago, through the restoration worked upon it by Viollet le Duc, to its present state today. And yes, the project really is that awesome!

You can find Andrea's page about the Chateau here. Don't neglect to click on the video link!

Well, today was a perfectly lovely day in which to sit around doing nothing... which was just as well, as that was the slowest (filming) day I've ever spent in Pierrefonds! But then there was ♥♥♥ Rupert ♥♥♥. {swoons}

No doubt the highlight of the day, for me and for many, was Rupert. He arrived with family members, dressed in 'civvies' as his own good self. I think they must have taken the opportunity to tour the Chateau. Afterwards, despite presumably having a day (or at least an afternoon) off, he was gracious enough to sign autographs and pose for photos with all the fans who wanted to. Which was quite a few! He really is a kind-hearted and delightfully friendly sort - and a terrific ambassador for this production, which already has a reputation for being a good and happy team. But then I would say that, wouldn't I? Sweet on him as I am...

So the photos today are all of Sir Rupert ♥♥♥, with a lone exception: the back of the camera truck, aka the good ship Flaming Virago. You can find the photos here.

After the heat of yesterday, it was a great joy to me to wake up and find that it was raining. Not sure if the crew much appreciated the rain, but then I don't think they'd enjoyed the heat very much either! The weather was quite changeable all day, creating delays, and culminating in a thunderstorm. At which point I called it a day! Presumably the poor cast and crew had to soldier on.

G'day! I had a lovely weekend. On Saturday I tramped around a very damp field and got rained upon in an effort to locate the field where the Dragon comes to talk to Merlin... and pretty much gave up on that as impossible without asking for direct info from the production itself. I also found some wheatfields with poppies, which looked spectacular. Then I visited the Chateau de Compiegne on Sunday.

But you want to hear about what happened today at the Chateau de Pierrefonds! There are no real spoilers in this post - only mention of continuing cast, crew and creatives.

Alas there isn't much to report.

Bonsoir! Your correspondent was privileged to be in Pierrefonds for the first day of filming at the Chateau. It was a lovely day, made lovelier by the company of [livejournal.com profile] yavannauk. The day began with rain, and was overcast for most of the day - despite which I still managed to get red-faced from too much 'sun'. {sighs}

There is little to report, but I'll tell you anyway. And I didn't take any photos, but I'm sure you'll be happy to know that [livejournal.com profile] yavannauk did. The following includes some mild casting and costume spoilers.

Here I am at long last, following up on my rewatch of episode 101…

The Valiant episode is very Camelot-centric, but hopefully you'll still find it interesting!

You can view the post here on the Merlin Locations website. But please be warned it's very image-heavy!

This community, the website, and indeed the whole Merlin Locations thing, grew quite randomly. For me it all started with a visit to Puzzlewood and Speech House Lake on 25 April 2009; I fell in love with both in different ways. I thought that only a few people might share my interest in these places - not only for their own sake, I mean, but as filming locations for our beloved Merlin. I was astonished and happy to be wrong about that!

From there I investigated the obvious locations such as the Chateau de Pierrefonds, and also other more obscure locations when prompted by clues in DVD extras such as the video diaries or by information provided by fellow Locations Geeks. It was all pretty random. But I always thought we should at some stage start at the beginning, and go through the episodes in a more systematic way. Also, it seemed that people enjoyed my weekly updates on each episode's locations during the third and fourth seasons. Hence the first of these 'rewatch' posts on the website.

You can view the post here. But please be warned it's very very image-heavy!

Hi!

Hope it's okay to do this. Just a quick post to say I've posted some pics of the September filming on my LJ. I still have the pics from the last filming day there to post, I'll do that the coming week-end.
The spoilery pics are after cuts.

Bonjour, mon ami!

Just woke up to my last morning in France. I'm off to catch the Eurostar soon, but wanted to write up a little something about the fourth day in Pierrefonds - which was marvellous.

Warning: There are a few more little spoilers in here, but only the sort where it's obvious in the photos.

Hello again from Pierrefonds!

We had a fun day today... Just about everyone in the main and regular cast turned up, along with the powers that be, for a read-through in one of the Chateau's rooms. Of course we weren't privy to that, but at least we got to glimpse everyone coming in and heading out.
