5 friends, 2 dogs (named Merlin and Arthur *lol*) and I went to Wales from 6th - 13th July to hunt down some Merlin filming locations. Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] merlinlocations and its fabulous location hunters we had an amazing time and found everything on our list (which wasn't complete at all, but it was a start ^^). And now, that I've completed all the entries of our first Merlin location trip at my livejournal, I'd like to post the links here. :)

Every pic of mine comes with a screenshot of the series, so hopefully everything will be clear. But if there're any questions, I'm more than happy to answer everything I can. :D

Day 1: River Ely, Castell Coch, The Blue Pool, Three Bears Caves
Day 2 + 4: St. Donat's Bay, Dunraven Bay, Margam Country Park, Glastonbury Tor
Day 3: Clearwell Caves, Puzzlewood, Raglan Castle
Day 5 (part 1): Caerphilly Castle
Day 5 (part 2): Comeston Medieval Village, Candleston Castle
Day 6: Goodrich Castle, The Amazing Hedge Puzzle, Speech House Lake
Day 7: Chepstow Castle, Huntsham Court Farm

I think we really did a lot for just one week, but we certainly missed out a lot as well. So, the next trip to Wales is already in the early planning stages. :D
I hope you'll enjoy those entries. :)

Wandering in Wales – a tour of Merlin and Arthurian sites in Wales – April 11-17, 2011

Since I went on a tour of Merlin filming sites over the course of 6 days, I thought it would be a good idea to tell you about options just in case you also want to visit. I'll try and include costs and mileage, etc. Keep in mind that I'm from the States so I'm always astonished at how close everything is!

Just a note.

Last night I watched the last episode of Series 3 of Being Human and one scene focused on our beach of Dunraven and there in the background was the ledge where our scene of the 2 goblets was filmed.

Just thought you might like to know.

So… myself and [livejournal.com profile] asifidletyou recently took a long weekend to go on a Locations Tour, at least partially in honour of Bradley’s birthday. For two of the three days we had the most beautiful autumn weather, just perfect, and I got to visit a couple of new places as well as revisit some of my old favourites. There is new info or images below on Wenallt Woods, Pendragon Close and other streets in Cardiff, and Llanwonno Forest.

I’ve included small copies of lots of photos below, along with commentary. If you’d like to see larger versions of the photos, check out my merlinlocations Flickr photostream.

Thank you for the kind reception of my first batch of Locations icons! I thought I would keep going - though, I don't know... somehow I'm not managing to translate what's in my head into pixels. Anyway, I hope you like these.

And please remember that February isn't over yet! We have had some really beautiful Locations icons posted, and a lovely range of subject and style. But there's always room for more. Please feel free to take part, if you feel at all inclined.

♦ All photos were taken by me. (ETA: Oh, except for #17, which was taken by Mr L.)
♦ #19 is for my dear friend [livejournal.com profile] asifidletyou
♦ Feel free to snag, but comments and credits are love! ♥

Well! This is a trickier challenge than I thought it would be... Here's my first attempt at some Locations icons... I will come back and have another try soon... {ponders} I am finding this a very interesting process, but I really did think I would find it easier! :-D

I trust some of you more artistic types will come (or indeed come back!) and show me how it's done... XD

Location: Dunraven Bay, Wales
Credit: These are all my photos, etc. Please credit [livejournal.com profile] archaeologist_d
Notes: When I was there, there was a storm blowing in off the ocean so hard that I could barely stand up straight. But it was exhilarating at the same time. Unfortunately, it made the pictures all a uniform shade of grey. Anyway, here's Dunraven Bay.

I recently visited Wales for 2 days and saw 6 filming sites. I wouldn't recommend more than that, although some of them are very close to each other. As someone from the US, driving on the left side was 'fun' but I got used to it. The narrow roads - not so much. But it was well worth the trip.

My posts are image heavy so here are the links. If you don't want links, I'll try and import what I wrote. Just let me know.

Day 1 - Dunraven Bay, Cosmeston Medieval Village and Caerphilly Castle
Day 2 - Speech House Lake, Puzzlewood and Raglan Castle

Thanks so much to everyone who suggested things to see. It helped immensely!

Dunraven Bay is simply astonishing. Another one of my absolutely favourite Merlin locations! The unusual cliffs and rock formations, a beach with a band of large pebbles above wide flat sands, a stream running down across the beach, and extremely high tides - all this combines to create a primal magic that changes dramatically throughout each day.

how it's used in Merlin

The mystical nature of the episode The Labyrinth of Gedref called for some unusual locations. Like Puzzlewood, Dunraven Bay certainly fits the bill. Once Arthur emerges from the labyrinth, he finds his final test already set up on an rocky beach. Merlin is there as part of the test, with Anhora presiding. The unusual landscape of Dunraven Bay provides a fantastic backdrop to this scene.
