Thought I'd share with you what I've found out whilst sat at my computer and aided by a recent 'Merlin' visit.
So this is it - something has bugged me for a while and it's this photo
I wanted to know where it is.
I remembered that when I spoke to Mr Edward Heyes at The Amazing Hedge Puzzle about Bradley (when they filmed in the maze) he'd also loosely pointed over his left shoulder and said that they filmed over there as well, said that they needed a field where the crop had been blown down and he knew of one but, guess what, he couldn't remember exactly where he told them. Well no problem because I wasn't after that info then.
I didn't take much notice of it at the time but now, I've given it a lot of thought about where was he standing and where 'over his left shoulder' might lead me on Google Earth.
I've arrived at this:-
If you look closely at the photo above, on the right hand side two thirds of the way up, you can see what looks like two loops of a path - well after much investigation via google earth I've found the loops. (bottom right hand corner)
the loops are just above google in bottom right corner
It's a moto cross track. I've investigated and I don't think locals like it - noisy, but I have found it mentioned on the web.
Well to continue with the search.
The track loops line up with Little Doward which is over the main road and is the wood at the middle top of the map, just like the back of the first photo.
By lining up the angles of the googled track and hill as in the first photo it seemed as though it was filmed from Llangrove. I was very excited when we next visited the area, and it was off to Llangrove, but bad news, not filmed from there. We asked three separate residents if they'd filmed and all said no.
I went back to Mr Edward Heyes and asked him if he could remember where he suggested they went, he thought he'd said Llangrove or maybe Peterstow.
view of Little Doward from the Peterstow area - see the hills are the same shape as background of photo 1.
As we drove round we couldn't find a field to match the one in the photo because there just wasn't one in line with the moto track and Little Doward.
Now I was suspicious and even more so becauase the fields we went by didn't have walls.
In the first photo above you'll notice that the fields are edged with stone walls but in the photo below no sign of a wall.
whoooops not a wall in sight
So it's a cut and paste jobbie from different locations. Ah well problem solved, well nearly as the field must exist somewhere...............thinks ???..
I don't think it's worth a Merlin Location visit but I enjoyed the investigative fun and sharing it with you..

Date: 2010-08-27 04:46 pm (UTC)Based on all this, I'm wondering if the scene was filmed pretty much as is, and the stone walls were CGI-d in later?
I had been assuming they had only filmed the actors and the surrounding field with its dead crop at that location, and that the further fields and hills were added by CGI, with the stone walls perhaps 'hiding' the seams. But it looks to me as if there was more filmed at the same location, at the same time. Those hills are right, aren't they, taking into account Dale's camera filming from a higher perspective than yours.
Very interesting...! Thank you again, for journeying and detecting and sharing.
