season 5 locations

Filming for the fifth season of Merlin began on 12 March. Hurrah! I will use this post to keep track of the locations we hear about during the year.


All the following locations we know about due to eye witness accounts or similar sources:

♦ Chateau de Pierrefonds
♦ Trefil Quarry: Interestingly, this location was dressed with fake snow!
♦ Margam Country Park, near Neath and Port Talbot, Wales: A new location! Hurrah! Official website here and Wikipedia entry here.
♦ Caerphilly Castle, and nearby forest: Also with snow.
♦ Caerphilly Mountain: Wikipedia entry here.
♦ Clearwell Caves
♦ Cosmeston Medieval Village
♦ Puzzlewood
♦ Brecon Beacons
♦ Raglan Castle
♦ 'Merthyr Mawr Castle', near Bridgend, Wales: I assume this means Candleston Castle, though it could also be Ogmore Castle. In any case, another new location! Hurrah!
♦ Wenallt Woods
♦ Speech House Lake
♦ Fforest Fawr
♦ Huntsham Court Farm, in the Wye Valley

Fake snow? Are we finally going to have winter at Camelot? Or I wonder if they are just making it look like the far north?

I was wondering the same thing...
It would be quite weird to have a winter in Camelot only now. So I guess it's probably some other place in the far north.

My working theory is that our heroes are elsewhere in Albion. But hey, every time I think I know what's going on with this show, it turns out the producers had something completely different in mind! :-D

yeah it's probably not snowing on Camelot. It would be too strange. or it could be something to do with magic...
it's hard to guess just knowing that there is some fake snow somewhere on the set
maybe it's a new quest and they have to go through the cold far away land. obviously not the same direction as the perilous lands which were very dry and sunny x)

My working theory is that they are in the north of Lot's kingdom (which could be in the Orkney's or sometimes Norway?), looking for Morgana. They talked a lot about Lot in the last episodes of Series 4 and also something struck me in what Katie said about her costumes for this series.

But I could be totally wrong!

That country park looks full of possibilities, doesn't it? What with ruins and such as well as the park land generally. It's great to have a new location, this far into the series.

But oh my, snow will certainly be something different! And it sounds as if it will have quite a significant presence!

Gosh. Not too many months now to wait! :-D
