Pierrefonds - 19 June

Please be warned that this report and the photos on Flickr now contain some casting (guest and recurring), costume, and prop spoilers. However, I don't name names, and if you're even vaguely familiar with the legends I don't think you'll be overly surprised by the newest prop.



We had a good day today, with a scene being filmed in the courtyard which included horses - always fun! Once again, Arthur (Bradley) was greeting a visitor and his entourage of warriors. Gaius (Richard) was at his right shoulder, and the new recurring fifth season character was at his left - dressed as a knight. The director was Alice Troughton.

There were reports from other fans that the four main knights (Eoin, Rupert, Tom, and Tomiwa) were in training elsewhere - presumably preparing for a fight scene - and that Eoin and Tom filmed a scene in the nearby forest. There were also reports that Katie McGrath was filming nearby, though alas I didn't see her.

The rather large prop spoiler could be viewed in the great hall, and was presumably used in the filming on Friday and Monday. This item has already been foreshadowed in the show at least twice, and is one of the more expected elements of the story, but I'll let you choose whether to head on over to Flickr to see it.

There has been a five-person crew filming 'behind the scenes' material, for which they interviewed Bradley today. I have yet to ask for any details of what this might become, but they've been there every day so far, which is promising.

Also, official photographer Nick Briggs was on duty today, not only in the courtyard, but also doing a photoshoot with Colin inside the Chateau.

ETA: I understand that we'll enjoy 'Colin in the courtyard' tomorrow (Wednesday).

I really, really, really hope they'll show us BTS footage and interviews (and release it on DVD), it's not like we've been bribed with stuff like that over the years...

You're right: Colin was dressed as Merlin, so they were underplaying The Sheer Sexiness. I should add a little bit of detail to my report, I think...

Ohhhhhh soooo giddy Julie.... (doing a little happy dance) It's 1:10pm here and I've been waiting for your report all day. And as usual... it doesn't disappoint. I've been seeing pictures posted by others there all day, but they never seem to have as good of shots as you, yavannauk and the other photographer Elodie Decelle.
I did get to read your interview with Alice Troughton. It was OUTSTANDING♥, thanks for the refer... I hadn't gotten that far down your link list yet.
Can't wait to see what else you have instore for us. From what I could tell you had some nice weather there today. It's boiling hot here. 86 degrees.
I just got the chance to check out all the new pics. Soooo cool to see Alice do her thing. You can tell by some of her facial expressions that she's deep in thought. I am loving the costumes and the props. Thanks for the new pics. I can't wait to see what you come up with next.

I'm delighted that you enjoyed the interview with Alice, too! She is an inspiration, and you can tell from my photos that I like watching her do her thing, too. :-D She's thoughtful and cheerful and engaged without being intense when she's working. She said to me once that her ambition is always to make things that people love - which is why she's happy with us being in Pierrefonds, as it demonstrates that we really do love the show!

The weather was quite good. Overcast, but not gloomy, and it only spotted occasionally, and didn't rain. I hope you have a cooler day tomorrow.

Hi hon, another set of yummy pics, thank you. I particularly enjoyed 'the jaw' shot (still recovering from that one - BJ looks like a particularly handsome cat basking in the sunshine there:D). I'm also quite taken by the guest star's guard, who handily keeps his cutlery tucked into the front of his helmet(the non-NC17 kind of course :P)x

Like you, my initial reaction was disappointment that they hadn't used the same prop - but then the necessity of having a larger one, and as you say, Arthur making the idea his own, won me over.

I am very very interested to discover how the new character is introduced, and how that plays out! Should be great!

Hello again! Yes, I'm sure they'll make it absolutely clear in the first episode how much time has passed. It will be easy enough, after all, to refer to how many years Arthur has been king, or Gwen his queen.

There's no reason (yet!) to assume that the producers won't be putting their own spin on things. Saying that the new character has a job to do before the end is a typical bit of provocation that could mean anything. It's a great publicity soundbite! I'm sure it will all play out in interesting ways, and given that they seem to have already removed the two significant issues that the new character usually has with Arthur, then I should think it's almost inevitably going to play out rather differently to what we expect from the legends.

Picture 8856 is great! And Bradleys/Arthurs Cape is much brighter than all the others!!!! Haha - sorry it's just me cheering for the king^^

8670 is just a beautiful picture of the forest! Did i ever mention that i love backlight shots??? I do them myself some (or more) times^^ Even it has nothing to do with filming in PF at the moment!

Hee! Yes, the king has a special cape. It's made of a different material, and all! I think the first time I saw it was when they were filming Arthur welcoming Mithian in the courtyard. I remember it kind of flaring red then!

I'm so glad you like that backlit shot in the forest as well. Thank you! I really love trying to do that kind of thing, and I'm glad you do, too. It doesn't always work - at least not for me! - but when it does, it's awesome.

Sorry you feel you've been spoiled, hon. :-( I'm sure there'll be all kinds of surprises in store for us once we're watching the episodes themselves. ♥

It was more a joke about the signs in PF about not to spoil other fans with sharing pictures and so on! In Fandome we always warn about spoiler! Everyone who is reading the post anyway he/she is to blame, no one else!

Cool! Thanks, hon. :-) Yes, the few little 'spoilers' have only made me all the more intrigued to watch the actual episodes now, and find out how it all works!

I'm afraid that I was a bit more of a rebel re their spoiler request than many of my fellow fans, but yes, I am trusting my fellow fans to either look or not look as is their wont.
