[identity profile] archaeologist-d.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] merlinlocations

The opening scene of the first episode of Merlin was filmed at Ivinghoe Beacon.  It's at the eastern edge of the Ridgeway Path and there were lots of hikers out enjoying the day. At first, walking down from the car park, it's hard to see where they filmed that scene but as you go over the first ridge and turn around, you see instantly where Merlin first appears. I admit it gave me a bit of a shiver to see it.

Plus it's a lovely area just to walk around and fairly easy, too.

Definitely at least 3 pointy hats and maybe more.

All of my pictures for this site are in the merlin locations flickr account.

Aww! You stood where Merlin stood! And there's the lion (Bradley's "horse") from the video diaries, just brilliant!

Isn't it strange and exciting when you find the track and get the angle right where it all began so many many years ago.

Wonderful! I'm so glad you made it to the place that started it all off! I'm particularly fond of this one, and like you I get shivers. I love that it's such an ancient pathway... I don't know if they had it in mind for that reason, but if ever there was a 'real' Merlin or Arthur, then they would have known The Ridgeway. And that is just awesome. ♥
